UP Warriorz vs Gujarat Giants | UPW vs GG Highlights: Grace Harris’s Dominant Fifty Leaves GG Winless

UPW-W vs GG-W Highlights: Uttar Pradesh Warriorz earned their second victory of this WPL season, defeating Gujarat Giants by six wickets here on Friday.

Chasing 143, Australia’s Grace Harris (60 not out; 33 balls), played some big and entertaining shots as the target was achieved in 15.4 overs

The 30-year-old right-hander hit nine boundaries and two huge sixes, and shared an unbeaten 53-run partnership with Deepti Sharma (17 not out).

UPW spinner Sophie Ecclestone picked up three crucial wickets as her side managed to restrict Gujarat Giants to a score of 142 runs in 20 overs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday.

UP skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to field first as GG put up a 40-run opening stand between Beth Mooney and Laura Woolvardt. The former was first to go while Wolvaardt stayed at the crease a bit longer to make 28 runs.

Harleen Deol was dismissed for 18 runs, before Phoebe Licthfield’s 35-run knock and Ash Gardner’s quick 30 helped UPW to their 142-run total.

The Gujarat Giants led by Beth Mooney will look to pick up their first win of the season while the UP Warriorz will aim to maintain their momentum after defeating the defending champions Mumbai Indians to pick up their first win of the season.

UP Warriorz head into this game on the back of a convincing seven-wicket win over defending champions Mumbai Indians Women. Chasing a stiff target of 162, the UPW-W batting line-up made light work of the chase by sparing 21 balls, thanks to a breezy 57-run knock from Kiran Navgire and useful cameos from captain Alyssa Healy, Grace Harris and Deepti Sharma. The win was their first one this season, having lost their opening two games.

It has been a terrible start to the season for Gujarat Giants, who have lost their two opening fixtures. They were dealt a huge blow ahead of the season due to an injury to Kashvee Gautam, one of the brightest young prospects in women’s cricket. In their previous encounter, they took on Royal Challengers Bangalore Women and suffered a lopsided defeat as the Smriti Mandhana-led franchise beat them by eight wickets and chased down their target of 108 in just 12.3 overs, hugely affecting GG-W’s net run rate.
